Return from Hiatus
My sincere apologies for my lack of posts in the past month. In that time I have learned to be extra thankful for my health (My husband spent 10 days in ICU with H1N1) and extra careful about not spreading germs.
Updates will now be posted on a nearly daily basis.

Thursday and Friday Recap -
TRF students learned about savvy google searching with Mrs. Weinand on Thursday, and on Friday, discovered just how difficult it is to organize a workspace when the tables and chairs aren't adjustable.
In order to help students in their efforts to position themselves in an ergonomically correct way, I am asking families to donate old/unwanted phone books to be used as foot rests and seat risers.
Phonebooks can be brought in at any time. Thank you!

Phonebooks wanted
MWF students learned about ergonimics - the study of workplace design, and then assigned a finger to every key on a blank keyboard.
Anyone who has a spare / old phonebook (or two) is asked to bring it in /send it in with their child to help students adjust their workspaces according to the principles of ergonomics.

Mrs. Weinand
On Monday, Mrs. Weinand visited class and helped MWF students learn and use "smart" search techniques with the google search engine.
Some of the techniques they learned include:
Not writing too many words, using the site:gov, site:edu, site:org qualifiers, using the -sign to eliminate types of results not wanted, and using quotation marks when searching for an "exact phrase."

A tornado in North Branch!
That's right, our own piece of weather history, a bit too close to home for comfort. Early Wednesday evening, a tornado apparently hit the north-eastern edge of the North Branch Middle School, damaging the roof and causing the building to be closed indefinitely.
